BEFORE THE BULLDOZER
A Nottingham allotment site destined for change
Amphibia
The site's location provides a good habitat for amphibia. The Bilborough Brook runs through the site into Martin's Pond, which in turn outflows through Harrison's Plantation and onward into the large lake in Wollaton Park.
Allotments provide many suitable cracks, crevices, damp spots, compost heaps, sheets of metal etc., all excellent potential for amphibia. Unfortunately, amphibia are notoriously difficult to photograph, and we have all missed many photo-opportunities! Common newt are regular visitors to my own hut, but I've never got a half-decent photo of one. Frogs are so abundant at times that you fear to do any digging, but a good photo is not forthcoming yet.
So this page is posted in hopefulness of better things to come...
